History
of Holly Creek Missionary Baptist Church Holly Creek First Landmark
Missionary Baptist Church was organized June 16, 1889 in a log house on
the banks of Holly Creek in Northwest Howard County, Dierks, Arkansas. The
charter members included: J .I. Bryant, E. Bryant, Parthena Stinson, J .E.
Bean, M.A. Willingham, Ann Cook and S.E. Gammill. The presbytery included
Elders T.H. Westbrook and T.I. Lumpkin, with deacons I.H. Rivers as clerk
and P.R. Littlefield, moderator protem. P.S.J.E. Beane was chosen clerk at
the organization and Elder T.H. Westbrook was called as the church's first
pastor. At some later date, Holly
Creek Church moved into a building which was the old Dierks High
School. That building was sold to the school in the late 1940's and later
burned. Holly Creek was moved into the rock building on Highway 70 while
Grady Higgs was pastor. The fellowship hall was added during the ministry
of Luther Oglesby and the auditorium was remodeled and enlarged. On
December 15, 1996, Holly Creek moved into their fourth auditorium, which
was just to the north of the rock building and tied together by a
connecting office wing. Total construction costs were almost $550,000,
with about half being financed through Diamond State Bank. Pastors of Holly Creek include: T.H. Westbrooks, L.M. Compton, J .A. Westbrooks, P.R. Littlefield, W.A. Turnage, I.M. Webb, H.L. McCarroll, J .M. Copeland, William Allen, L.M. Keeling, Elder Elkins, Elder Dumas, J .A. Turner, C.H. Tippitt, C.R. Hatch, L.T. Epton, T.F. Westbrook, W.J. Burgess, E.T. Burgess, John Moore, W.O. Tomblin, Grady Higgs, Roy M. Reed, Greer Smith, E.L. Gillentine, Buddy Wright, Don Adkins, Lester Barnes, Franklin Shepard, Luther Oglesby, Allen Hagood, Paul Vance, Bill Driggers, Jr., Robert Branch, Bill Driggers, Jr, Tim Bourne, and Larry Allbritton.
